Mehdi Snène is dedicated to bridging the worlds of science, technology and development to foster applications of AI in all regions around the world. He recently joined the Office of the Secretary-General’s Envoy on Technology as a Senior Advisor on Artificial Intelligence, working with the AI Advisory Body as part of its secretariat. He focuses on utilizing responsible AI to drive evidence-based policymaking and foster the advancement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
With a background in research and development, he has previously served as the R&D Director and interim CEO of a Geneva based NGO. During his tenure, he played a key role in initiating and overseeing the establishment of a collaborative AI network across multiple countries. His leadership was pivotal in developing computing capabilities promoting open access to AI tools and facilitating capacity building efforts aimed at accelerating AI adoption in various regions worldwide. He placed importance on ensuring data sovereignty empowering these regions with control over their own data while leveraging advanced AI capabilities. Prior to this role he held positions as an Associate Professor, at the University of Geneva and served as Scientific and Technical Director at EPFL.
